Even if you may not wear a watch on your wrist everyday, you will still have one on you or in your household in some form or the other. Different Types of Watches There are many types of watches and each one of us finds his or her type and/or types and uses the same. The traditional watches, which some still prefer even today are the manual winding watch, which every 24 hours you will need to wind it in order for it to function. The upside to this watch; however, is that no watch battery is needed. Then the watch with the watch battery was introduced and it has been a huge success mainly because you did not need to worry about your watch for a long period of time once you placed a new watch battery in it. The battery watches are probably the most used watches today even though many other styles were invented here after. The other type of watch is the solar power watch, which still carries a watch battery but it gets recharged by solar power and thus never needs changing. Then came along yet another revolutionary function and that was the automatic watches, which had the mechanism of self winding themselves through the movement of your wrist; however, the only downfall of this watch is that is you are not wearing it for a long period of time it will stop working. How You Can Know When to Change a Watch Battery Watch batteries today should last you anywhere from two to four years even longer in some cases. The best way to tell when your watch battery needs changing is when your watch starts losing time. A watch battery does not just stop all of a sudden but gradually so you may not notice at first but when you realize that your watch is losing couple of minutes it is time to change its battery. Most watches need to be taken to a jeweler in order to change its battery due to the fact that most watches have the battery placed in an air tight place, which needs a special machine in order to close it the same way. Therefore, don’t try to replace your watch battery by yourself or you may end up scratching the back of your watch case or worse damaging it altogether.

How often have we bought watches and never given it a thought as to how to take care of them? Here’s some ideas: Hand-wound watches With a new watch, wear it every day for at least two weeks. First wind the watch, then set the hands. Wind slowly and regularly. Wind daily, if possible, in the morning. Automatic watches With a new watch, wear it every day for at least two weeks. First wind the watch, then set the hands. When winding an automatic, count the number of times you turn the crown. Thirty to forty revolutions guarantee optimum torque. If you wear your watch every ray and take it off at night; there is no reason to wind it by hand. Setting the date with hand-wound & automatic watches Never use the rapid-advance feature between 8 p.m. and 3 a.m. Never wind the hands back beyond 12 midnight. Special instructions apply to watches with a perpetual calendar like the Romana, the Grande Complication, the Novecento and DaVinci Ref. 1850, GST Automatic Alarm and other models. Please see the operating instructions for watches with these complications. Quartz watches Pull out crown to “hands position” if the watch will not be worn for a long period of time. Have the battery checked every two years. Only allow an official IWC agent to change the battery. Water-resistant watches Remove water-resistant watches before showering (soap reduces the surface tension of water and allows it to attack seals very effectively) Have your watch checked at least once annually and have the seals replaced if necessary. If condensation appears on the inside of the glass, take your watch to a watchmaker immediately. Check that the crown is screwed in before swimming or bathing. After swimming in the sea or in water containing chlorine, rinse the watch under running tap water. Temperature, shocks, magnetic fields Avoid extreme fluctuations of temperature. Avoid extreme shocks and vibrations. Strap the watch firmly to your wrist. Avoid lengthy periods in strong magnetic fields. Service intervals On average, every four to five years. Only entrust the watch to an official IWC agent. Leather straps, glasses Change the leather strap of a watch that is worn daily every one to one-and-a-half years. Scratches on Plexiglas can be removed by polishing, sapphire glass is scratch-resistant. Have new glass fitted immediately if the glass is cracked. Enjoy your watch!

Do you have a collection of wristwatches? Or do you at least own a watch? Is it real? Is it genuine? Or is it a replica? Having a watch and wearing it around our wrist makes us time conscious. And it is not a bad habit or bad connotation. In fact, I consider it as a positive character because it will lessen our tardiness when it comes to work, school, or meetings.

Tritium (H3)is a form of hydrogen (symbol H)that is both naturally occuring and man-made. It is very useful for watch dials that can be read at night.
Tritium is a radioactive isotope of hydrogen. Tritium occurs naturally in the atmosphere from the reaction of cosmic rays and air molecules. It is also produced in nuclear reactors during the production of electricity. Tritium is an atom of hydrogen with one proton and 2 neutrons giving it an atomic weight of 3.

It is interesting how thin the line between a second hand watch and an antique can be. Basically, it only comes down to how much people want the item in question. I have been selling used watches for sale for several years now, and I have seen many of my second hands become collectors items. For example, take your typical Mickey Mouse watch. In the 80s, they were all the rage. In the 90s, you could sell them for pennies and you still wouldn’t be able to get rid of them. Nowadays, however, they qualify as collector watches for sale. Selling used watches sure is confusing! Of course, a new mens watch for sale is a simpler thing, but it still is by no means simple. Watches for sale always involve a certain amount of ambiguity. You see, fashions change so quickly, and many of the watchmakers only produce limited lines. This means that if you are quick to observe the trend, you can mark up a watch for sale overnight. The same watches for sale that might be midrange one day will cost an arm and a leg the next day because the maker stops manufacturing any more of them. Of course, my favorite for sale watches are the antique ones. Antique watches for sale, you see, have a high level of craftsmanship that is not equaled by anything being made nowadays. Even Rolex watches for sale are not up to the same standards. It isn’t like they can’t make things that well, they just choose not to. In this day of mass manufacture, what would be the point? Even with expensive watches for sale, you can always buy another one. If you are a fan of watches, you should go to a second hand sale if you get the chance. Although most of the time you only finds junk, every once in awhile there are some great watches for sale. One time, I even found a Movado for sale in a Goodwill store. Apparently, the guy had no idea what he had his hands on. I played it cool and bought the watch for sale before he even could take a second glance. I don’t know how many watches for sale are sold at rates so low that they are practically a steal by inexperienced vendors, but it is probably a substantial number! It is all the better for watch collectors like me.
